As many of you know I had two baby showers, you can read about them here and here! While that doesn’t make me the subject matter expert, I do know a good bit about creating a comprehensive registry. As a matter of fact, I still have my registries up and will leave them up until they expire. The reason I still have them up is because they serve as a shopping list of some sort of things I may still need for baby. Even if you don’t plan on having a shower, you should do a registry. You can choose to do one online through your major baby retailers like Babies R’ Us and Buy Buy Baby, big box stores like Target or Wal-Mart, or an online merchant like *. There are also many other merchants that you can create wishlists of products directly on their site, like Brica
You’ll want to have your registry created long before you even send out your invites. By the time people get your invites, you want to have a solid registry for people to choose what to get you and baby from. A good and comprehensive registry should include the following categories:
While all 10 categories are super important, don’t skip on the Gear category. Whether or no you’re a busy on the go working mama or a SAHM, every mama needs her gear! One of the best items for errand running or travelling is the Brica Infant Car Seat Comfort Canopy.
The comfort canopy gives your baby a cool, shady hideaway on your picnics or trips to the park with this retractable cover for your infant car seat. The breathable mesh lets the fresh air in while keeping out bugs, wind, and germs from overly friendly strangers. A retractable rain and sun cover blocks over 98% of damaging UVA/UVB rays and can be tucked away in a zippered pocket when not in use.
Here are just a few of the features:
- Innovative design works with your car seat/stroller travel system or lets you carry your car seat with the canopy on
- Retractable UPF 50+ rated sun cover blocks 98% of UVA and UVB radiation (when sun cover is in place)
- Easy to use – fits all major brands and comes off in seconds
- Mesh fabric provides air flow, visibility and privacy
- Does not interfere with infant car seat handle
- Zippered front closure for easy access to your baby
- Reflective safety strip provides visibility at night
- Includes zippered carrying case
The one thing I really like is how lightweight, convenient, and can easily be packed away in your diaper bag. Look how it folds right into itself. Right up my alley, because with a baby or kids in general you already have a ton of things in tow.
Hubs & I can’t wait for next summer to travel and take our son out to enjoy some summer fun. We will definitely be using the canopy cover to take baby out and enjoy the sunshine safely and in the most healthy way possible. If have a newborn now (like I do), are pregnant now, or planning to be soon, this is a great item to add your registry or pick up.

xxoo,
Hey! That’s a genius idea! Using the wish list or registry to check off what you may need. The one thing I find awkward about most baby showers are the amount of newborn clothes you get. They outgrow that phase so quickly. The next shower I go to I’ll be getting 9-12 months at least if I buy clothes. Looking forward to this series lady. Great tips and info!

Thanks so much girl!
Yep, using a registry really helped and is still helping when it comes to things I still need to get for my son. A perk of my husband and I not finding out the gender of our son until birth, was that people strayed from getting us clothes. I was so happy about this, because I didn’t have a ton of clothes that we weren’t going to use. We did however get tons of diapers! My in-laws alone got us like 30 packs of 20 count newborn diapers, that my son grew out of by two weeks. I never even got around to using them. I figure I’ll give them to my sister in-law, because she makes diaper cakes (and pretty much anything else out of diapers.).
As somebody who has never been (and not sure when I would…) to a baby shower, I’ll take these as good ideas. My sister-in-law just had hers the other day and she had a registry. Seems smart as you don’t want more than you need of certain things! Visiting from the Northeast Bloggers weekend wander hop.

Thanks so much! Your exactly right, a registry can serve many different purposes for exacting what you do and don’t need/want.
I’ve never thought of having a canopy… I just use a large blanket! But thanks to new inventions, this seems to make it easier than trying to keep a blanket on. Thanks for sharing

This post gave me a great idea for my wedding registry! It’s ideal for both baby and wedding registries! Thanks for the tips! I can get overwhelmed with these type of things! Invites, registries and vendors can be alot, and this will help me!

Great idea keeping the registry open as a shopping list! In London I had a great alternative which was a sort of personal baby shopping/concierge service where they put together a list of everything for me.

That’s so awesome you were able to utilize a service like that. I wish we had something like that here in the U.S.! We could definitely take some cues from you all with those type of things.
This is a great idea!

Creating a baby registry was probably one of the toughest things I did while pregnant (while toughest is a relative term I guess…) and honestly going back and doing it again, I’d only register for maybe 1/4 of what I originally registered for. This looks like a great idea though. Thanks for sharing on the weekend re-Treat link party!

To be honest it was one of the toughest and cumbersome things to me too! It was both exciting and dreading at times when it came to the registry.
Oh my gosh! I have to have to retractable cover. I’m almost 19 weeks now and already stressing about strangers touching our baby. haha
I felt the same way you felt and still feel that way! My son is 6 weeks and I shudder at the thought of people touching him.
