NaBloPoMo | Why I Blog What I Blog

ILB

I have plenty of blog posts that I’ve yet to publish.  I use my handy dandy editorial calendar to schedule out all posts.  The bulk of my editorial calendar is full of drafts.  Looking at all my drafts, I honestly don’t see any that I would post.  In taking a look through my archives, I can’t think of a post that I feel I shouldn’t have posted.  I tend to stay away from controversial issues, but occasionally, depending on the subject matter I have written on a few stirring topics.

I do remember two posts in particular that I wrote, because the topic either agitated me or had me question it.  One post I wrote on why some bloggers are mean, was one of those.  You can read that post here.  Another post I  wrote was in response to a CNN.com article posted about a young woman that didn’t want kids.  You can find that post here, if you want to give it a read.  I feel that if I am going to write on a somewhat controversial topic, it needs to be relevant to my blog.  Both of these topics were, because I take it that most of my readers are other bloggers or women.  I genuinely wanted feedback on these topics from people who could relate to them.  This is the approach I always take if I am going to post something that I feel might be stirring.

I approach blogging that same as I approach speaking; thinking beforehand.  I always ask myself, does this really need to be said or posted?  What type of response will I actually garner from this content?  If the answers to either one of those questions is “no” or something negative, them I don’t say it or post it.  However, if I feel strongly enough about something and I’m willing to stay in the kitchen and take the heat, I would post it.  At the end of the day, my blog is my happy place, so I will continue to do everything I can to keep it that way.

Is your blog your happy place?  How do you decided what to post on and what not to?  Do you post on things that your unsure about the response it will garner?

NaBloPoMo | Love to Love

Love

I could go on and go about love, but I would seriously write a book here people!  I love to love, always have, always will.  I love God, my child, my husband, myself, and my family.  Yes, in that exact order.  I’m a God-fearing woman, and I feel like if you put God first then everything else falls into place.  I wouldn’t have met my husband and fallen in love, gotten married, and had our son without the love of God.  It is my show love and faith in Him that bestows his blessings onto me and my family.

My love of God is the reason I’m able to stand strong in my faith and know that everything happens according to his will.  This means that I’m patient, regardless of how long it takes for a prayer to be answered.  I know that everything happens on His time and not mines.  I feel so blessed, despite the hardships or not so ideal situations that may have happened in my life.  It is the love that I have for Him that strengthens my faith every single day.

My husband and I were just discussing how blessed and fortunate we are.  Its amazing how things fall into place when you trust in God.  Without love, you can’t trust in anyone, because love takes trust.  Our lives have by no means been ideal lately.  We have been praying for certain things over the past year, and its really been a test.  However, we put our trust and love in God, and knew he would bless us when the time was right.

We know He will continue to bless us as long as we continue to love him and show that love.  At the end of the day, love is continued faith, whether you have it in God, a person, or passion.  I’m blessed enough to have all three and love God for that.

That’s my take on Love!

Blurb’s Chicken Soup for the Soul Books

Blurb’s Chicken Soup For Your Soul!
It can be really hard buying books for people as gifts. After all, you never know just which books they already have. And then when you do find the right book and give it to them, how do you make it really personal? Put in a book plate? Write an inscription? How do you make the whole thing totally them?

These personalized “Chicken Soup for the Soul” books are one really great way to do it. Not only do you get to choose from five different story themes (from “Christmas Stories” to “Giving thanks”), you can personalize it in ways you just can’t with a conventional book. As the title suggests, these are stories meant to comfort and heal.

Everyone knows someone who has a Chicken Soup for the Soul book, or maybe even you have one! Well, Blurb just came out with their own custom template for you to create your own version for your home or as a heartfelt gift.

Your custom “Chicken Soup for the Soul” book will truly be a book for them because the book is printed with their name on the cover, as the recipient. And it’s truly from you because your name is printed on the cover as the giver. You can even include an inscription inside the book and on the back cover. Even add a photo to the back.

There are other nice options to choose from, like the type of cover you’d like and the type of paper. It takes just about five minutes to make it a truly custom book. And chances are, it’s something they’ll love forever. And a 60-page book starts at just $24.95.

There’s a quick video here: Chicken Soup for the Soul that shows you how to fill in all the info using a simple online tool. The books are all done by Blurb, so you know the quality is going to be great.

Creating The Perfect Registry for Your Baby Shower

PerfectRegistry

As many of you know I had two baby showers, you can read about them here and here!  While that doesn’t make me the subject matter expert, I do know a good bit about creating a comprehensive registry.  As a matter of fact, I still have my registries up and will leave them up until they expire.  The reason I still have them up is because they serve as a shopping list of some sort of things I may still need for baby.  Even if you don’t plan on having a shower, you should do a registry.  You can choose to do one online through your major baby retailers like Babies R’ Us and Buy Buy Baby, big box stores like Target or Wal-Mart, or an online merchant like *.  There are also many other merchants that you can create wishlists of products directly on their site, like Brica

You’ll want to have your registry created long before you even send out your invites.  By the time people get your invites, you want to have a solid registry for people to choose what to get you and baby from. A good and comprehensive registry should include the following categories:

10Categories

While all 10 categories are super important, don’t skip on the Gear category.  Whether or no you’re a busy on the go working mama or a SAHM, every mama needs her gear!  One of the best items for errand running or travelling is the Brica Infant Car Seat Comfort Canopy.

The comfort canopy gives your baby a cool, shady hideaway on your picnics or trips to the park with this retractable cover for your infant car seat. The breathable mesh lets the fresh air in while keeping out bugs, wind, and germs from overly friendly strangers. A retractable rain and sun cover blocks over 98% of damaging UVA/UVB rays and can be tucked away in a zippered pocket when not in use.

Here are just a few of the features:

  • Innovative design works with your car seat/stroller travel system or lets you carry your car seat with the canopy on
  • Retractable UPF 50+ rated sun cover blocks 98% of UVA and UVB radiation (when sun cover is in place)
  • Easy to use – fits all major brands and comes off in seconds
  • Mesh fabric provides air flow, visibility and privacy
  • Does not interfere with infant car seat handle
  • Zippered front closure for easy access to your baby
  • Reflective safety strip provides visibility at night
  • Includes zippered carrying case

The one thing I really like is how lightweight, convenient, and can easily be packed away in your diaper bag.  Look how it folds right into itself.  Right up my alley, because with a baby or kids in general you already have a ton of things in tow.

Hubs & I can’t wait for next summer to travel and take our son out to enjoy some summer fun.  We will definitely be using the canopy cover to take baby out and enjoy the sunshine safely and in the most healthy way possible.  If have a newborn now (like I do), are pregnant now, or planning to be soon, this is a great item to add your registry or pick up.

Want more on creating the perfect registry, shower, or general preparation for baby?  Well your in luck!  This post is the first in a new series of Baby Prep posts I’ll be doing.  Feel free to submit any questions you may have on baby prep, so that I can include and address them in upcoming posts. – Can’t wait to hear!

Disclosure:  I was sent the Brica Infant Car Seat Comfort Canopy for review.  I am not an affiliate for Brica.  All opinions are 100% my own. Please note that I only review products that I feel uphold the integrity of NewMamaDiaries.com.

NaBloPoMo | My One Bad Habit!

KIG

Well, this is an easy one for me!  If I could quit one bad habit instantly without difficulty is would totally be procrastination.  Since I can remember I have waited to the last minute to do nearly everything.  The catch is that I hate being late, for anything that is.  This goes back to my split down the middle complex.  See growing up I was half tomboy, half girly-girl.  Personality wise, I’m a shy extrovert.  I can be as anti-social as I am social.  This all sounds a bit oxy-moronic doesn’t it?  Know that I’m perfectly aware of all this and have no problem telling people such.  Continue reading
