IMG_1162I think this has been my go to smoothie recipe forever!  It’s actually one that my husband made me last year, and I kind of took it and revamped it to give it a little more flavor and a bit more healthier.

* I typically eye ball the ingredients to my liking, so the measurements below are guesstimates.

Ingredients

2 cups of Orange Juice

2 cups of mixed berries, combo of blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries

2 cups of strawberries

1 cup of plain yogurt, Greek works great too!

1 tablespoon of honey

1 tablespoon of vanilla extract

1 cup of ice

Directions

Begin with pouring orange into blender, next add mixed berries and strawberries, and yogurt.  Blend unto loosely combined, roughly 30 secs. Add yogurt, honey, and vanilla extract and blend until evenly blended together.  As you are blending the yogurt/honey/vanilla extract add in cubes of ice a few at a time (if you choose to use ice). Once all ingredients are blended you are ready to serve. You can use fresh or frozen fruit for this recipe, I haven’t really found a super distinct taste between the two.  I love the grittiness of the seeds from the berries and the hint of citrus from the orange juice. The honey and vanilla extract smooth the whole thing out and mellows the palette.

You can add a protein powder or even kale or spinach if you want to go even a bit healthier.  This smoothie tends to be rather sweet, especially with the heightened flavor from the vanilla, so if you like a less sweet taste skip the honey.

The ice thickens the smoothie, if you like a less thick smoothie then skip the ice, especially if you use frozen fruit.  You can also freeze this smoothie into a yummy sorbet! – Give it a go!

Enjoy!
