1. I don’t get out the house as much any more, so my shopping habit has exponentially decreased.
2. No more trips to the drive-thru (see #1). Plus, with breastfeeding I’m eating even more healthy to give little all those good nutrients. This also means I’m cooking more often and buying fresh is cheaper than eating out.
3. Since I rarely leave the house (again, see #1), I wear the same few pairs of jeans and rotation of tops everyday. Laundry only happens about every two weeks now instead of weekly.
4. People love to buy the baby things, so I rarely have to. I buy things like the essentials; diapers, wipes, etc., but clothes and toys are usually gifted.
5. I spend less time on myself, and more time on everyone else.
Okay…so of course I’m being a little facetious here, but most of what I said is actually true. It’s the things that no one tells you about when you become a parent. My husband and I have a running joke about experiencing the many qualms of parenthood that no one tells you about, and that we know they’re secretly laughing at us now that we’ve become parents. Actually, most of the time they aren’t secretly laughing, they’re laughing right in our faces.
I used to always here horror stories about moms who were lucky if they got a shower or brushed their teeth on a given day. I will tell you that I do shower daily and brush my teeth. I refuse to be that mom and wife that doesn’t take time out for herself, to at least make herself look presentable. However, I don’t get these things and many others done as quickly or efficiently as I used to. Motherhood takes some getting used to, but I manage to find humor in this journey everyday…and sleepless night!

Hahaha! I told my husband about this post when I saw it! It’s so true! We don’t spend money on ourselves like that for nothing. I mean, to be honest, we just can’t afford it right now. That’s been ok by us. We buy our essentials, pay the bills and buy food. We are breastfeeding so that has saved a ton of money and when we did start giving JR solid food it was just purred veggies, fruits and meats that we already had. Now he just eats what we eat. We don’t buy those “baby, toddler foods.” They tend to have a lot of junk in them and the cost adds up over time. We’ve bought diapers for the past year and a half at least now and even that is just cheaper than people think. I don’t buy expensive brands. I’m actually saving a lot of money even more than cloth diaper moms with just buying Walmart or Target brand.

These are so true. But, I must say that for #1, I hate shopping anyway. So, I tend to save money. Yes, yes, and yes on the rest. My kids are older now (tween and teen) and I still spend more time on them, i.e., sports, music classes and numerous other things. I do take time out to take care of myself, partially. I continue to run and keep my hair tidy. Want to at least look presentable. Overall, yes, you can definitely save money when you have kids if you focus on the right things….

What you said about shopping is so true. I was a shopaholic before having kids. Not anymore! I’m so glad you make time for yourself daily. Whenever I hear women say they haven’t showered or brush their teeth I immediately think about how their husbands must feel about that, LOL!!! Who wants to cuddle with day old morning breath, NO ONE! You look great post baby, GO GIRL!!!

When I saw the title of your post, I was wondering where you were going with it. Our kids definitely cost us plenty of money…hehehe. However, I get it! I didn’t buy clothes and we didn’t go out either when the babies were little. And we did get lots of baby stuff as gifts. Totally makes sense! You look fabulous for just having a baby!!

Funny stuff! The biggest thing that has saved me money since having kids is that we do MUCH less vacationing now! And I must say that I am pretty jealous you only have to do laundry every other week. I do it nearly every day for my family of 4!

Thanks so much! I always try to find the humor in my chronicles as a new mama, hence my blog name. I can completely understand the not vacationing. My husband and I have only gone out once to the movies since our son was born. I can’t even fathom a vacation right now, lol!
I’m sure my laundry situation will be changing soon enough as my son grows and we add more to our brood. However for now, I’m totally taking advantage. Got to while I can!
