Every girl want’s to keep her diamonds (or any precious stone or metal) sparkly and shiny, especially me!  I typically clean my rings about once a week, but with that commercial stuff you buy at the jewelry store.  I thought this time I’d take my cleaning in a different direction and go natural!

What I used:

1 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon baking soda
1 tablespoon dish detergent
1 cup water
1 piece aluminum foil
Scissors
Small bowl
Soft cloth, such as a micro fiber one

IMG_1217How I did it:

  1. Heat water in the microwave for 1 or 2 minutes.
  2. Cut a piece of aluminum foil that roughly covers the bottom of a small bowl (like a cereal bowl).
  3. Pour hot water into bowl. Place salt, soda, and dishwashing liquid into bowl. Place jewelry on top of foil and let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes. Rinse jewelry in cool water and dry jewelry completely with soft cloth.

The results:  Very sparkly, but more clean if anything! I usually just get the sparkle with the commercial stuff, but my rings never felt as clean as they felt this time.  I tend to moisturize my hands a lot, and even though I take them off to do so, the oils and such still make my “dirty” over time.  I could tell a noticeable difference as soon as I took them out of the solution.

The pictures really don’t do this concoction justice.  I wish I had some of those jewelry store lights in my house!  Nonetheless, I highly recommend cleaning your jewelry naturally, for one its inexpensive, quick, and you don’t have to worry about any harsh chemicals affecting your jewelry.

Note:  You’ll want to discard solution after use and make a new batch next time.

    • I usually do too! Never even think about it normally. That’s the great thing about this recipe is the fact that everything included in it is pretty much a household item.

Can’t wait to link up again next week!

  1. This made my rings super sparkly! However the day after I developed a red ring on my finger, under my rings. Has anyone experienced this too? I made sure to rinse them very well, and let them air dry over night before wearing again.

    • I tell you, its good stuff! You pretty much are doing it now, just need to add the baking soda into the mix. Baking soda is a miracle product, its works on everything, to include teeth to rings to clothes!

    • Yes! That’s the great thing about this concoction is that it has everything you already have around the house.

I look forward to linking up again in the future for sure!
