Fall TV, what’s returning, what’s new

Fall TV, what’s returning, what’s new.

The Walking Dead – Returns to AMC October 31 @ 9 P.M. This is the 4th season of the series and its debuting just in time for Halloween. Previous seasons are available Netflix if you want to catch or just refresh yourself. It’ll be more ghouly, milky-eyed, predatoral zombies on your tv to last you all Fall.

Homeland – Returns to Showtime September 29 @ 9 P.M.  This will be season 3 of the show.  Check Netflix or OnDemand through your cable or satellite service to see if previous seasons are available. – Unfortunately I do not have Showtime and have never seen the show, but I here it’s a big hit.

The Big Bang Theory – Returns September 26 @ 8 P.M. to CBS.  The show will premiere its 7th season this Fall, but if you need to catch re-runs play all the time and they should be on Netflix and OnDemand as well.

Boardwalk Empire – Returns to HBO for Season 4 of the series at 9 P.M. on September 4.  Just as True Blood leaves us for the Fall, this show keeps with HBO’s trend of gritty drama.

The Good Wife – Season 5 of the show returns to CBS September 29 @ 9 P.M.  I have actually only seen re-runs of this show and bits and pieces of it here and there, so I can’t give too much inside scoop on the show.  I do know, however, that it is an award-nominated show and that the fact that it is, gives good reason for it to now be in its 5th season.

The Neighbors – This primetime comedy returns to ABC September 20 at 8:30 P.M.  I remember this show premiering last season, and tried to give it a shot, but based on the premise I couldn’t really get into it.  Maybe it will make more sense this season??

Nashville – Everyone’s favorite country drama.  I remember catching it bits and pieces of it after my usual Wednesday night programming and it wasn’t half bad.  I’m not surprised at all to see if back for a second season.  It premieres on ABC September 25 @ 10 P.M.

The Vampire Diaries – One of my absolute faves!  Returns to CWtv October 10 @ 8 P.M. for season 5.  I’m not even gonna get into it, but let’s just say I’m excited about it!  I’m even more excited to see what the spin-off The Originals brings to the franchise.
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-w-yL2gF3jEg/UHcbtCwOc3I/AAAAAAAAAXY/hMBGJCNY9nM/s1600/vampire-diaries-title1.jpg
New Girl – Now in Season 3, premieres September 17 @ 9 P.M. on FOX

Modern Family – Another one of my faves for Wednesday night tv.  The 5th season premieres on ABC, September 25 @ 9 P.M.  Can’t wait for the laughs and unconventional, awkward humor.
How I Meant Your Mother – It seems like this show is always on.  Literally, all the time and on every channel.  Nonetheless, the new and final season premieres September 23 @ 8 P.M. on CBS.

Revenge – There’s so much good tv on Sunday nights that its hard to get around to watching everything.  I unfortunately have not caught much of Revenge, but what I have seen of it, has been good.  Season 3 premieres September 29 @ 9 P.M.

SCANDAL! – Need to say more!  That’s all!  Season 3 premieres October 3 @ 10 P.M. – Stoked, can’t wait, October hurry up (for baby and Scandal)!

Honorable mentions:  Park & Recreation, Community, Girls, House of Cards – all TBD, but will return to the airwaves this fall.
What will you be watching this Fall?  How do you feel about the upcoming Fall tv season?
I’d love to hear your thoughts!

What I’m Watching | The Conjuring

http://media.aintitcool.com/media/uploads/2013/the_kidd_pic_database/the-conjuring-poster-1.jpg
A couple of weeks ago Hubs & I went to see The Conjuring.  We had planned to see it for months, after seeing the trailer for it when we went and saw Evil Dead.  He is an avid horror movie fan, and while I’m not as brave and fearless as he is, I do enjoy them (with him).  We both like that scared excitement that horror movies bring.  Why we like to scare ourselves, idk…we’re crazy people.  Nonetheless, we eagerly anticipated seeing The Conjuring, because it looked scary and seemed to have a good plot.  Well, I’ll tell you its both!
I won’t give away too many details, but if you plan on seeing it *disclaimer:  This post may contains spoilers!*  The movie revolves around one of Ed and Lorraine Warren’s, renown paranormal investigators, case files.  The movie opens with Ed and Lorraine teaching a lecture to college students on paranormal activity.  They show some footage of one of their most recent cases, that just so happen to affect Lorraine heavily.  The couple was doing an exorcism on a man, and during the exorcism Lorraine ended up seeing something so horrific, that it took her 8 days to recover.  During this time she did not speak to anyone, eat, or do really anything.  She was in essence a catatonic state.  The movie takes place in New England America, as with most of this type of genre horror movie (did that even make sense, oh well…you know what I’m trying to say.).  When we see the family who the movie centers on, you see a typical family; dad, mom, and five, yes five, daughters.  They have just moved into a big old farmhouse on a lake with lots of land.  Its picturesque, quaint, but from the jump a little eerie.

This house is the type of house with a cellar, secret/hidden rooms, and a basement.  The dad discovers a basement and decides to go and explore.  He finds a bunch of old, cob-webbed covered things down there, but doesn’t think much of it, outside of them being left by the previous owner.  They bought the home from the bank, so there was really no homework done by them as to who lived in the house prior.  He goes on to tell the mom that some of the things might be antique and valuable, and that maybe they can make some money off of them.  You see the girls playing a game called “hide and clap”, in which one person closes there eyes, counts to ten, and everyone else goes and hides.  Once you count to ten, you start walking with your eyes closed and yell out “clap”, the hiders are supposed to clap and the finder follows the clap to find the hiders.  Easy enough, right!  Well, this is how they end up finding the basement, because one of the girls ends up going into the closet that leads to the basement.  Anyhow, the night ends seemingly normal, with everyone going to bed.  The next morning everyone is up and off to school, but the mom has a pretty painful looking bruise on her leg.

All but the youngest leave for school, and its just mom and her for the day at the house.  The youngest girl, who looks rather angelic, but weathered with slightly darkish circles around her eyes wants to play hide and clap.  Mom, who you can tell at this point is feeling some kind of way reluctantly agrees.  We see mom going through the house trying to find the youngest daughter, but can’t.  She hears a clap and follows it into a room calling out for her daughter, no answer.  Next thing we know the little girl pops up in the door way telling her mom she was in an entirely different room.  The little girl mentions a new “friend” and starts to talk about him. Mom asks if she can meet the new friend, and the little girl give her a music box to “summon” so to say the “friend”.  Of course we know at this point that this new “friend” is imaginary, and most likely supernatural.
After this, the movie develops pretty quickly and doesn’t waste time getting into some mild horror theatrics.  Just enough to get the water in the pot simmering.  A few other creepy occurrences later, you see the mom approach Ed and Lorraine at the college and ask for their help.  Ed and Lorraine are reluctant, due to Lorraine still recovering from the last case, but agree to help.  They come out to the house to meet the family and assess the situation.  Almost immediately, you can tell that Lorraine senses something, but we don’t know what.
http://www.jaredmobarak.com/wp-content/filmstills/conjuring02.jpg
They agree to help the family out, and proceed with having them to make an audio recording recounting the recent supernatural events.  Once Ed and Lorrain return home to review the recording, the mother’s voice doesn’t come up on the tape.  After a few minutes they hear some “white noise” and then the mother’s voice comes up on the recording, weird huh?
Ed and Lorraine begin their investigation be doing some research on the house and property and come to find out some pretty eventful facts.  They find out that the house was once part of a large 100-acre farm and had sense been sold off in many sections over the years.  On this land, many strange events and tragedies happened over the years.  The penacle thing we learn is that a woman accused of being a witch was married to the man that originally owned the land.  She was accused of killing a baby when she was younger, but aquitted because there wasn’t enough evidence to convict her.  We next learn that when she became pregnant, after delivering she sacrificed her and her husband’s child 8 days after the baby was born.  The husband caught her doing this and she proceeded to commit suicide by hanging herself outside from a tree in the yard.  Hence, the movie poster scenery.

The movie goes on to have some jolting events happen revolving around the witch and the mother of the family.  The Conjuring doesn’t have the cheap scares that many horror movies have these days.  It has a solid storyline, giving some it real substance.  You feel for the characters during the emotional moments, and during the scary moments.  They have this force attached to their family that won’t leave them alone, and you sympathize with them on this.  All they want to do is live a normal life in their new house, and have a fresh start.  They can’t move because they have a lot of money tied up in the house and the dad, who’s a truck driver, is the only one that works.  Its not like them moving would solve the problem anyways.

The Conjuring wraps up nicely, with a little easter egg to the Amityville Horror House being mentioned.  In which the Warren’s investigated as well.
http://www.spiritsociety.org/haunted/amityville.jpg
The storyline doesn’t end with a cliffhanger, which I can appreciate and actually makes sense.  Many horror movies these days end with the ol’ cliffhanger so that the creators can always leave that door open for a sequel.  The Conjuring doesn’t do this.  The case is closed once the movie ends.  If you enjoy a good scary movie, without the gore and over the top scare tactics, then you will like The Conjuring.  It did very well at the box office and is definitely worth all 112 minutes of it.  According to IMDB.com, there could possibly be a sequel in the works, but no definite word.  I honestly don’t think that it needs a sequel whatsoever, because its wrapped up nicely and sequels tend to cheapen movies, especially horror movies.  No follow up is ever better than the original, at least when it comes to movies.

Happy Saturday folks!  Have a great weekend and I’ll see ya ‘round.

Pretty Little Liars Season 4 Recap…so far

Okay, so I have totally fallen off of my PLL weekly updates!  I really have no excuse, besides being too lazy to type up the recaps.

So let’s get to it:

Everyone is looking extremely suspect right now!  “A” could be anyone, and by anyone I mean any of the girls, parents, boyfriends, friends, etc.  I do still think that “A” is somewhat random, but somehow connected to all of the girls in some way.  There has been a lot of talk of Allie, but the storyline with her is slow and a little all over the place in my opinion.  It seems as if this girl was into an awful before her death, things that no 15 or 16 should have been into.  I mean from her possibly being pregnant when she died, to hanging out with college kids, manipulating nearly everyone around her including her mother, the whole mask thing…its crazy!  Now we have Spencer on this rampage to find out how all this ties in, but to me her and Toby seem the most suspicious.  I can’t shake the feeling that Spencer, of all the girls, has the strongest ties to “A”.  Her sister who has been in and out of the entire show’s storyline throughout the seasons has popped up as a player in this whole “A” game thing.  We also have Hannah’s mother looking very suspect in the death of Det Wilden, so Hannah is trying her best to figure how her mother is tied to that.  In this week’s episode we saw that Hannah’s father’s handgun, the same one used to kill Wilden, was found in her mother’s luggage.  Her mother denied ever having the gun and said she didn’t know how the gun got there.  The on-going storyline and tension between Aria and Ezra (Mr. Fitz) is still very apparent, although it appears she is trying to move on.  Funny enough, just as her mother exits the storyline, her brother re-enters it.  I haven’t seen him on the show since like season 2, when he start tripping.  I guess he’s back and stable, although he knows all about Aria’s affair with Ezra and makes it very known to her that he does.  I’m not quite sure of his relevance to the entire storyline, but he still appears somewhat jaded, so that might come into play down the line.

Meanwhile, Emily is now off the school’s swim team due to her shoulder injury.  That girl has the most unnecessary drama of the entire show.  Its like they try to make drama with a character that has none.  On the flipside, a new girl (not sure if she’s into girls or not) has popped up on the scene as competition for Emily.  Both with swimming and personally.  This chick is now on the school’s swim team after transferring, taking Emily’s spot on the team.  This particular girl is extremely shady acting and its evident that there is some real tension between the two girls.  Now, back to Toby and Spencer, as they nearly travelled back in time on this week’s episode, to seek out this housemother of a sorority that Allie had connections with.  I will tell you that this woman looked creepy as all get out!  I don’t know if it was the lighting, actually I’m pretty sure it was the lighting, but she was CREEPY!  The town they went to was almost a Pleasantville-esque looking town, with old cars and was seen by us outside viewers as being in black and white or sepia at times.  Spencer sees the woman getting her hair done in a salon and barges in to ask her about Allie.  The woman is of no help and Spencer is sent along her merry way.  Upon leaving the salon, Spencer realizes music is playing and that everyone is going to this courtyard with a statue with flowers on it.  We don’t know what this is about, but they see a girl they know from back in their hometown and start running to the car to follow.

Okay so back to Aria, her brother, and Ezra.  Aria is asked to look over a fellow students work, since she’s know for being a good writer.  Her and this guy, who looks to be in the same grade as her or brother, are sitting on the couch and she’s giving him her feedback, very platonically of course.  Next thing we know they finish up, he’s leaving and he plants a kiss on her.  She tells him she’s not interested in him like that and he leaves.  The next day at school Aria’s brother comes up to her to scold her about hooking up with this guy.  She is stunned, knowing that this did not happen and immediately runs into the boy’s lockeroom where this kid is and proceeds to tell him off.  He plays the jerk role and tries to make it appear as if she’s lying and blasts her, saying that everyone knows about he affair with Ezra.

Overall, the season is pretty good and every episode leaves me wanting more.  I wonder how long they plan on dragging out the Red Coat character and who “A” is or isn’t.  I feel like “A” changes with every season, and a new dynamic is added to the character, so that who “A” is can and probably will never be pinpointed.  That’s the true beauty of a real cliffhanger…hat’s off to the writers for contriving such poignant storylines with teenagers.

Until next time folks…

Happy bumping!

Pretty Little Liars, Season 4, Episode 2 Recap

Okay, so I am totally late on this…forgive me!  I fell asleep right before PLL came on last week and missed most of the 8 P.M. airing. I did catch enough in the last 20 or so minutes to put everything together when I re-watched the entire show at 10 P.M.  Tip for those of you who miss the first airing at 8 P.M., it always airs again at 10 P.M. (thank goodness, even though I have On Demand!)  Who wants to wait until the next day if they don’t have to?  Anyhow, so from what my memory serves me…it wasn’t too eventful of an episode, which I fully expected.  You rarely have a strong follow-up episode to the premiere, although it did have its moments.

In this episode Hannah questions why her mom’s shoes ended up in the trash after it appeared that they had attempted to be cleaned with a toothbrush.  Emily ends up hitting her head on the pool wall during a swim meet, most likely caused from her passing out while swimming.  It is revealed during this episode that she has been having arm/shoulder pain and that she’s been taking something for it.  As usual, everyone who pops up appears to be very suspect.  Spencer and Toby are yet again at odds, because Toby tells Spencer that “A” has promised him something and that he can’t tell her what it is.

Allison’s mother reminisces on different memories of Allison, also revealing what we already know, that Ally was extremely unstable and manipulative.  Of course, the ever-going awkwardness of Aria and Ezra was evident during the dreamquence classroom scenes.  I’m actually quite bored with that particular storyline, so I’m glad the show is moving away from it. Looks like Aria has a new love interest and has even taken on karate in her efforts to make a connection.  Now from the beginning it looks like she is simply taking the class to learn about Wilden, but we soon come to see her attraction to the instructor, ending up with her kissing him.

Overall, the episode was a little slow and uneventful, but of course as with every episode they build on each other. There is still a lot of mystery and unknown and this week’s episode ended with the quintessential cliffhanger as they all do.  They always leave us wanting more!

Well, those were the main highlights.  Stay tuned for episode 3′s recap and review!

Happy Bumping!

Pretty Little Liars, Episode 1, Season 4 Summer Premiere Review

image

So if you are here then you must be a PLL fan ready to discuss all the juicy details of the premiere.  Well you’re not alone, I am too!

WARNING! CONTAINS SPOILERS!

Well let’s get to it then:

I thought that the premiere was super suspenseful.  There were even moments when I got a little rattled and creeped out by the tone and setting of some of the scenes.  Basically, the season opened with the girls standing over the trunk of Wilden’s patrol car about the pop the trunk.  Upon popping the trunk we learn that the mystery within it is a pig, yes a PIG!  We waited all these months for that?!  Anyhow, I guess it was fitting with him being a cop and all.  I can’t say I’m sad to see his character go, he was always hounding the girls and was equally just as suspicious as every other person on the show.

The show touched back on Aria and Ezra’s ended relationship, with him accepting a teaching job back at her high school.  His reasoning was that he had a family to now take care of and if Aria wanted to see other people, then sometimes that being the best way to get over someone.  Jump forward about 20 mins in and we see Aria get called to the vice principle’s office, after staring at Ezra while talking to Hannah in the quad.  We then see her sitting nervously outside the vice principle’s office.  She gets called in and confronted about her relationship with Ezra, having evidential pictures thrown at her by the vice principle.  Next we see Ezra being arrested and taken away by the authorities.  But wait…yep, you guess it was a dreamquence, they got us again!  The for real moment is the vice principle simply giving Aria a package to give her mom, and him sending her mom well wishes to feel better.

The plot thicken with Hannah and Mona driving the RV out to a remote farm site to stow away incriminating evidence about them and the rest of the girls.  The episode also slightly touched on Spencer and Toby’s relationship with him being back in town, and on her good side.  Toby’s still a bit shady, but its hard to tell at times whose team he’s really on, A or the girls.  Meanwhile, Emily and Paige are discussing college, resulting in Paige going to Stanford and asking Emily to go with her.  They say they love each other after Emily agrees, and they hug…kiss…and next!  I have a feeling that in true PLL fashion, they will not be together by the season’s end.  The two are clearly going in two different directions, and on top of that Emily seems to still questions her sexuality at times.

Season 4 summer premiere rounds out with the girls attending Wilden’s funeral to basically break into his casket and retrieve whatever incriminating evidence that may be in his casket.  They walk into the church and immediately split up, but not before they notice a woman draped in a black veil.  Once in the church and after splitting up, the scene pans off to Spencer who finds the casket.  Out of the shadows Mona appears stating that they must have received the same message.  They proceed to open is casket and a phone starts to ring.  Spencer answers the phone and Hannah (shocker!) picks up, asking why she’s calling her from her mother’s phone.  Weird!  Now we’ve just opened a huge can of worms, so many questions!  Who put the phone in the casket?  What does Hannah’s mom have to do with Wilden’s death?  Why did only Spencer and Mona receive the message?

The suspense was ridiculous and the episode ended in typical PLL cliffhanger fashion.  We see the black veiled woman now surrounded by an Ali shrine with the dolls that the little girls from earlier in the episode had.  Each doll represents a girl, with a doll in Mona’s likeness being added to the bunch.  The black veiled woman takes off the veil to reveal a mask.  As the woman looks in the mirror, we see her turn from one side to the next, revealing that half of the mask in damaged.  I have my suspensions about who this masked woman could be.  The masked woman is definitely someone either working with A or A herself.  We shall see!

What did you think about last night’s episode?  What are your thoughts?

Happy Bumping!
